چکیده

SIJMMARY BY USING a simplified constitutive model of a pointed vertex on subsequent yield loci, namely, such that the equations of deformation-theory of rigid-plastic solids apply for fully-active stress increments, the onset of localized necking under biaxial stretching has been predicted. The predictions agree reasonably well with reported experimental observations. Since localized necking under biaxial stretching of a uniform and homogeneous sheet is impossible when flow theories of plasticity with smooth yield-loci are used, this result supports the hypothesis of vertex-formation on the yield locus under continued plastic flow. The implications of this conclusion with respect to the study of the inception of ductile fracture in solids, viewed as a material instability, may be far-reaching. Still, explanations based on a smooth yield-locus but small initial inhomogeneities cannot be ruled out, and both initial imperfections and yield-vertex effects may contribute in general to localization instabilities.

The effects of rate sensitivity and plastic potential surface curvature on plastic flow localization in porous solids

Plastic flow localization in porous elastic-viscoplastic solids is analyzed with an emphasis on the effects of material rate sensitivity and plastic potential surface curvature. The effect of rate sensitivity is included in a material model that accounts for a change of yield surface curvature in a rate-insensitive porous ductile solid. Shear band formation under plane strain and axisymmetric t...

A New Approach for Stress State - Dependent Flow Localization Failure Bounded Through Ductile Damage in Dynamically Loaded Sheets

In this paper, a new approach is proposed for stress state - dependent flow localization in bifurcation failure model bounded through ductile damage in dynamically loaded sheets. Onset of localized necking is considered in phenomenological way for different strain rates to draw the forming limit diagram (FLD). Using a strain metal hardening exponent in the Vertex theory related to the strain ra...

An Experimental and Numerical Study of Forming Limit Diagram of Low Carbon Steel Sheets

The forming limit diagram (FLD) is probably the most common representation of sheet metal formability and can be defined as the locus of the principal planar strains where failure is most likely to occur. Low carbon steel sheets have many applications in industries, especially in automotive parts, therefore it is necessary to study the formability of these steel sheets. In this paper, FLDs, wer...

The Prediction of Forming Limit Diagram of Low Carbon Steel Sheets Using Adaptive Fuzzy Inference System Identifier

The paper deals with devising the combination of fuzzy inference systems (FIS) and neural networks called the adaptive network fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) to determine the forming limit diagram (FLD). In this paper, FLDs are determined experimentally for two grades of low carbon steel sheets using out-of-plane (dome) formability test. The effect of different parameters such as work hardening...

Material aspects of dynamic neck retardation

Neck retardation in stretching of ductile materials is promoted by strain hardening, strain-rate hardening and inertia. Retardation is usually beneficial because necking is often the precursor to ductile failure. The interaction of material behavior and inertia in necking retardation is complicated, in part, because necking is highly nonlinear but also because the mathematical character of the ...
